Meet JanetSue, one of the teachers at Biblical Classical Community. Her Providential history is unique to her life experience. And this is evident when reading about how God worked all things together for her good because she loves Him.

JanetSue’s Education

My education was government and is the reason I love Biblical Classical Education.

JanetSue’s Testimony

As a child I was very excited to go to public school in 1960, and learn to read and write. But the only teaching that made good sense to me was Arithmetic, in first grade. I struggled trying to do what the teacher and the books said to do. Neither the text book or the teacher used thinking skills or common sense. The teachings were built on memorization. I came from an alcoholic’s home, and my memory abilities were affected by my emotions.

Dick and Jane were the reading resource and I read, “Go Spot go! Go, go, go!” I looked at the picture in the book. There was Dick and Jane, and there was their dog was running.  You could read the stories by looking at the pictures. I learned to read by memorizing words. There were few letter-sounds or foundations to use for learning.

JanetSue’s High School Years

I struggled through high school because the foundations to start teaching a subject were either evolutional or were not there at all. Just memorize the information for the test.

My Biology teacher told me, that God was dead. That put me in depression. My sociological teacher told me there were too many people in the world and this planet could not provide for us all. I was told I was part of the “Baby Boomers” and there were a lot of us. Kind of reminds me of the time, in the old Testament, when new rulers became in charge of Egypt, and too many Israelites were born.

LSD and free sex were popular, and the Beatles added to the confusion, as I was going into high school. I graduated from high school, but colleges were full of drugs and free sex. There were riots in the universities and Vietnam protests. Instead went to a watch repair school in Houston, Texas and lived at home. I found teachings that were foundational using common sense. I learned how to fix wound-up wristwatches and clocks.

The Married Years

I got married and worked part time. My husband and I had 2 sons, but after 12 years of marriage he left. I became a single parent.

Faith in Christ

I had been a Christian since I was 22 years old. I wanted to raise my sons in a Christian environment. During that time, 1986, I joined a mission organization that excepted divorced, single parents and they had training schools. I received my college education through “University of the Nations, UofN” which is connected to “Youth with a Mission, YWAM”.

How She Learned About Biblical Classical Education

When in mission school, I learned about Biblical Classical Education, which uses the Principle Approach(R)(1).

In the mission schools, they taught by starting with the foundation for learning each subject. Also, my children’s school there was a type of Biblical Classical Christian school, with the goal to “Disciple through Education”. I learned to agree with their goal for teaching.

I was trained in a type of Biblical Classical Education. It was taught to us to disciple children for Christ though every subject. God is the creator of every subject. I taught 19 years there and took University courses on our campus and I received a BA in Christian Education. I also did home school in the summer with my sons. We had 3 months off for summer in those days. Our family went to 7 different nations for evangelistic outreaches. I went to another 5 nations on short-term outreaches. I left to go teach at a Christian school in Jamaica after my sons left home and were in college.

The Impact of Biblical Classical Education

I taught in a mission elementary school, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades for 2 years. Then I pioneered a teacher training school. I was a teacher with the University of the Nations, on our mission campus in Jamaica. At the same time, I was asked to be the base leader. Then, I became a representative for our education program in many different educational meetings. All of these opportunities came from me learning how to research, reason and relate from foundations of truth. It taught me how to live my life seeking Christ first. Commonsense is easy and reasoning my ideas from the Bible is fun! Biblical Classical Education taught my children to reason from the truth of the Bible in every subject and taught them common sense, because that is the way Jesus teaches in the New Testament.

Why JanetSue is Committed to Teach Courses for BBC

I waited for 12 years of my valuable childhood years being confused and thinking badly of myself from government schools. Then I experienced being taught from foundations in Watch Repair School. This is the way to learn from foundations, logically, step by step.

Biblical Classical Education teaches us to research, reason and study. You are not by yourself either. The Holy Spirit is with you. “You shall know the Truth and the Truth will make you free” to Follow Christ and God our Father. To me, that is our heritage and our Eternity. It is wonderfully, fun too for your whole life!

In Biblical Classical Education, I teach parents to teach their children with videos, but I am flexible to answer questions and help where I can in person.  This is my story and this is certainly my song. I Thank God for His Providence in my family’s life through education!

Foundations are important and that’s why I teach Good Foundations: Preschool and Kindergarten Reading to parents. I want to empower them to teach their children how to read with good foundations.
