Ted Lamb

Ted-Lamb-Biblical-Classical-Community

Meet Ted Lamb, one of the teachers at Biblical Classical Community. This is the story of his unique journey. He teaches in a public school, using his training in Biblical Classical Education as much as possible.

As a career teacher and a father of two home-school graduates, Ted is concerned about education. He believes in Biblical Classical Education as a solution, which imparts Biblical educational philosophy and methods to the students. This is a public school teacher’s journey to becoming a Principle Approach®(1) teacher.

Ted Lamb’s Testimony

My journey starts just as many individuals in the public-school k-12 education system of the late 1970’s and 80’s in America. Things were different then but they were changing to become the system that we have in place today. I graduated as an average student in all of my studies but excelled in history and accolades in the field. I started college wanting to become a social worker (now that is a long story) but got a degree in Social Studies Education from Oklahoma Christian Education of Science and Arts.

Concerning Trends

During my 10th year in education, I was beginning to see some concerning trends with my students. They seem to be becoming worse each year in their ability to learn, to accept criticism, and very little resiliency skills. I started to look inward and question if I was the problem. As any teacher, I started to ponder if it was my methodology and strategies that was causing the problem. Along with prayer I started reason and research the differing philosophies of education. God works in mysterious ways in our lives. At this time, he did just that.

The Big Red Books

A fellow Christian at church gave me these big “red” books that according to him had some fascinating history. This happened about two years into my season of learning about education. Of course, just as anyone would the books sat on my book shelf for the next six years.

Ted Lamb Goes to FACE

Chris Evans, a dear sister in Christ, invited me to a FACE (Foundation of American Education) event.  As I sat and listened that night I realized a few simple truths. The first truth was that it was not my teaching philosophy but in fact I was teaching in a Principle Approach® way without even knowing that was what I was doing. Then I learned those “red” books on my book shelves were what God had in mind for me for a long time. It just was in his time that I came to understand this. I then became a certified Principle Approach®/Biblical Classical Education teacher and I continue to use the strategies in my public school classroom even today.

The Principle Approach® Impact

The impact of this kind of education has shaped my worldview and has helped to provide even more structure to my personal life. I believe that history education needs to be taught providentially. It needs to be presented, researched through the lens, and reflected upon by God’s hand in our world. I am committed to teaching courses in political science and history that does just that for students and BBC. Thank you for this opportunity.

Ted Lamb’s Contributions to Biblical Classical Community
