You know those kids who seem to see birds everywhere—it’s almost like their eyes are a set of binoculars? They’ll especially enjoy this course. But I want you to know that your whole family may get hooked on birding after you complete this literature study. Just maybe.
The Man Who Painted Birds is an 18-week (two quarters) course.
In this course students do a Classic Literature Study of THE STORY OF JOHN J. AUDUBON by Joan Howard. Lessons include getting to know who John James Audubon was, How God used him, and his contribution to America.
The Classic Literature Study includes studying the setting, plot, theme, characterization, related geography, some history for context, and reasoning from Biblical principles.
In addition to the Classic Literature Study, students do an artist study of John James Audubon which includes observing his subjects, style, and techniques. Plus, students will learn Biblical principles of art. You’ll gather around the table with your children twice a week and enjoy the beauty of God’s birds as seen through the eyes of John J. Audubon, and have an enjoyable time together!
True to the homeschool lifestyle, families with younger and older children may enjoy aspects of these lessons together. Younger children may enjoy:
- coloring the downloadable and printable outlines, or else they may enjoy having it traced on watercolor paper and paint a bird at their artistic skill level, too,
- listening to the audio of The Story of John J. Audubon,
- allowing seeds of Truth plant in their minds and hearts as they listen to the character studies of John J. Audubon.
Literature, History, Geography, Art, and some Science in one course? Yes!
