Q: HOW MANY COURSES ARE IN THE SERIES FOR ELEMENTARY WRITING?
A. Elementary Writing 2 is the second of four courses in the Elementary Writing series. Elementary Writing 1 is about how to teach students letter formation, spelling words, and basic sentences. Elementary Writing 2 is how to teach the basic informative paragraph. Elementary Writing 3 is how to teach the basic narrative paragraph, and Elementary Writing 4 is how to teach persuasive writing (coming soon).
.
Q: FOR WHAT GRADES DOES THIS COURSE EQUIP ME?
A. This course is designed to give you all the tools you’ll need to teach writing for grades 3-6. The first course is for grades K-2 and the last three courses are for grades 3-6.
.
Q: IS THIS COURSE AN ALL-CONSUMING WRITING CURRICULUM?
A. My course is not an all-consuming writing curriculum with weekly lesson plans. It’s a method of teaching writing that you can implement as often as you’d like and as long as you’d like. If you are interested in weekly lesson plans, you can get the Informative Writing Workshop, Narrative Writing Workshop, and Persuasive Writing Workshop courses.
.
Q: WHAT IS THE PACE OF THIS COURSE LIKE?
A. Depending on your child’s learning style and ability, I teach you how to pace and approach children in a way that honors them as individuals. The goal is to have students reach automaticity in writing a basic paragraph by the time they are finishing 5th or 6th grade. If it takes them longer, then take as many years as you need. If it takes a shorter time, then you can graduate them from elementary writing to intermediate writing (coming 2024) whenever they’re ready.
.
Q: WHAT KIND OF WRITING SKILLS DO I NEED TO ALREADY HAVE?
A. Students need to have mastered the skills in Elementary Writing 1 or know how to write a variety of basic sentences with automaticity. If your child is able to do that in a short amount of time, then you’re ready to start teaching them the skills taught in this course.
.
Q: HOW DO I PREPARE FOR TEACHING MY CHILD?
A. To get through the six-week course, watch the videos at your own pace to learn how to teach all the skills. However, you will need to have watched all the videos to determine how to pace your lessons for your child’s needs. Each lesson is short and designed to be implemented right away. There are assignment templates for each skill that you can use on an ongoing basis with your children. Learn the skill, teach the skill, help your child master the skill. That’s your job and I teach you how to do all that.
