Elementary Writing 1

This first writing course is a 6-week self-paced course for Christian homeschool parents to learn the basic skills of teaching informative writing. The course starts off with an introduction to the biblical foundations of writing where parents can learn and teach the principles that undergird the subject of writing. The basic sentence, the basic paragraph, and how to give a paragraph a unique style will be studied in depth. Parents will also be equipped to set up routines that help children build mastery. Even if your child doesn’t like writing, they can learn the disciplines of writing proficiently and gain the confidence they need to write and communicate Gospel truth to their generation.

.

Q: WHAT IS THE PACE OF THIS COURSE LIKE?

A. Depending on your child’s learning style and ability, I teach you how to pace and approach children in a way that honors them as individuals. The goal is to have students reach automaticity in writing a basic paragraph by the time they are finishing 5th or 6th grade. If it takes them longer, then take as many years as you need. If it takes a shorter time, then you can graduate them from elementary writing to intermediate writing whenever they’re ready.

A. I will teach you the different writing skills you need to teach and how to teach them. Then, I prepare you to teach those skills as you see fit.

.

Q: ARE THERE WEEKLY LESSON PLANS FOR ME TO FOLLOW?

A. There’s no weekly lesson plans in teaching writing. Learn the skills, practice the skills, and master the skills. That’s it. It teach you how to do all that in my course Elementary Writing 1.

.

Q: HOW DO I PREPARE FOR TEACHING MY CHILD?

A. To get through the six week course, watch the videos at your own pace to learn how to teach all the skills. However, you will need to have watched all the videos to determine how to pace your lessons for your child’s needs. Each lesson is short and designed to be implemented right away. There are assignment templates for each skill that you can use on an ongoing basis with your children. Learn the skill, teach the skill, help your child master the skill. That’s your job and I teach you how to do all that.
